An Innisfail woman had her prayers answered when she learned her son's sky high medical treatment will be covered by insurance.

Linda Pare got the good news from Health Minister Ron Liepert who told her that her son's medical treatment, which costs $500,000 a year, would now be covered by Blue Cross.

Her son, Trevor Pare, is one of only 13 Canadians who have Pompe disease, a life-threatening disorder that affects the muscles' ability to function.

Trevor took part in a clinical trial that provided him with free medicine to treat his condition. The drug he was receiving, called Myozyme, costs $500,000 a year.

Pare had been lobbying the government for more than a decade to have drugs for rare disorders like her son's covered by the government.

Pare will pay $100 a month to Blue Cross for the treatment. She tells CTV News she is in absolute shock and delight.
